Rearview Cameras in ALL cars by 2014?

December 6th, 2010 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Fairly recently, the Transportation Department proposed making rearview cameras mandatory by the 2014 car model year in all U.S. sold vehicles. According to an article at Yahoo.com, “the government estimated that video systems would add about $200 to the cost of each new vehicle.”

So why does the Transportation Department think it is necessary for rearview cameras to be installed in new vehicles? There has been an increase in concern over drivers unintentionally backing over children. The driver may not see a child in his blind spot and think that the space behind the vehicle is clear. According to statistics released by the Transportation Department, “on average, 292 fatalities and 18,000 injuries occur each year as a result of back-over crashes…”

We at Lester Glenn Auto Group will leave it up to you. Do you think that it is necessary for these cameras to be installed in every new car?
