Sports Radio 66, WFAN’s “Fantasy Phenom III challenge” brought to you in part by Lester Glenn Hyundai has narrowed its field to five finalists who will vie for the Grand Prize of a chance to host a once a week air shift on WFAN for one year. The finals of the “Fantasy Phenom III Challenge” will take place on Friday, August 24, at Bar A, Lake Como, New Jersey. The event will be broadcast live on the Mike Francesa program “Mike’s On” between 1:00pm – 6:30pm, on-air, streaming online at www.wfan.com, through mobile devices and simulcast on the YES television network. WFAN listeners are invited to Bar A to attend the event and watch the competition live. The five “Fantasy Phenom III” finalists are all local to the New York Metropolitan area and were chosen from over thousands of fans and loyal listeners who showed up at the auditions. Auditions were held at area Simon malls this July, as well as online entry.
Congratulations to the finalists: Joseph Giglio of Howell, NJ, a lifetime WFAN listener. Joseph graduated from DeSales University in 2008 with a degree in Sport Management. He is a New York Giants and Yankees fan, pursuing a full-time career in the sports industry. James Buzzone from Jersey City, NJ has made a living selling business software for the past eleven years, however his true passion is found in debating the sports issues of the day. James wants to fulfill his dream of going from caller to host on THE FAN. Patrick Creighton of Bethpage, NY is making his third consecutive appearance in the WFAN Fantasy Phenom finals. He is a graduate of the Connecticut School of Broadcasting, and a lifelong fan of the Giants, Mets, Islanders, and Knicks. James Flippin from Montclair, NJ is a 2010 graduate from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting. He is a lifetime WFAN listener and is thrilled to be a finalist in the Fantasy Phenom 3 Challenge. He lists the “Schmooze” Steve Somers as one of his greatest influences. Dan Girard of Great Neck, NY is a 2012 graduate of Syracuse University and recalls his first memory of WFAN as a four-year-old listening to the ’94 playoffs of the Rangers and Knicks. He is a diehard Mets, Jets, Rangers, and Knicks fan and prides himself on keeping track of everything New York sports.
“We’ve already had two great Fantasy Phenom contests and in year three we’re just as excited about this year’s finals. It’s always a lot of fun and we’ve found some terrific talent,” says Mark Chernoff, Vice President of Programming at CBS RADIO New York and WFAN Operations Manager. A panel of judges, plus listener voting will determine the Grand Prize winner. Listener voting will begin at 6pm Friday and continue at wfan.com through noon on Monday. Everyone is invited to see the competition and the show in person. There will be live music provided by The Smithereens throughout the afternoon. Lester Glenn Hyundai will be displaying the all new 2013 Hyundai Veloster at the entrance to the event.
