In the spirit of community collaboration and teamwork taught through youth sports, Lester Glenn Chevrolet is supporting Toms River Little League through the Chevy Youth Baseball Program. This sponsorship will include both monetary and equipment donations during the Spring 2012 youth baseball season.

Chevy Youth Baseball is a grassroots initiative that establishes a positive relationship between local dealers and the communities they serve. Lester Glenn Chevrolet is sponsoring the Toms River LIttle League as a part of Chevrolet’s nation-wide commitment to support youth sports, on community at a time. Over the course of the season, Lester Glenn Chevrolet will donate equipment to the league which may include: quipment bags, baseballs, softballs, catcher’s gear, batting helmets, ball buckets, umpire’s equipment, coach’s kits, break away bases, bat racks and first aid kits.

In addition, each sponsored league will take part in the “Chevy Youth Baseball Double Play Giveaway” which is a fundraiser that can earn each league $10,000! The “Chevy Youth Baseball Double Play Giveaway” features a Grand Prize of the All-New 2012 Chevrolet Malibu, along with other great prizes such as HD Televisions, courtesy of Lester Glenn Chevrolet.

Also, thanks to Lester Glenn Chevrolet, youth baseball participants will have a chance to attend a youth clinic with a local professional baseball team.

At this year’s New York International Auto Show, Lester Glenn Auto Group’s President, Adam Kraushaar, and Director of Variable Operations, John Perillo, Jr., had the pleasure of presenting a $75,000 check on behalf of Hyundai Hope on Wheels to Hope & Heroes Children’s Cancer Fund.

They, also, met some very brave children and helped them place their hand prints on the Hope on Wheels Tucson.

Southern Pop Warner (SPW) was founded in 1968 by Ron Eckard and was originally sponsored by the Manahawkin Elks Club. SPW prides itself on developing self esteem and team spirit for all participants; cheerleaders and players alike. Members range from 6-14 years of age and many of them continue to volunteer through high school and college.

“As a member of the Southern Rams Football and Cheer family, we expect each and everyone who participates in our program to give back,” says Southern Pop Warner President, Michael Johnson. “We have no employees, just dedicated volunteers.” Participation is open to all boys and girls living in Barnegat, Long Beach Island, Stafford Township and Waretown.

Lester Glenn Auto Group, a local car dealership with ten vehicle brands in both Toms River and Manahawkin, wanted to give back to this amazing organization. On March 31, 2012, Tom Allen, General Sales Manager of Lester Glenn Hyundai of Manahawkin presented Michael Johnson, President of SPW and Jerry Langton, SPW coach and Lester Glenn salesman, with a check for $5000. This donation will help the Youth Football league purchase a new electronic scoreboard for Doc Cramer Field in Manahawkin, where their games are played.

“Southern youth football is an outstanding program to help kids develop good sportsmanship, hard work, and integrity,” said Tom. “Lester Glenn heard that the program was in need of a new scoreboard and was happy to help our local youth sports program.” Like the Southern Pop Warner organization, Lester Glenn also prides itself on giving back to the community and providing a comfortable, family atmosphere.

The newly redesigned Hyundai was announced as the winner at the North American International Auto Show and was chosen by 50 automotive journalist from across North America.

“The awards are unique in the United States because instead of being given by a single media outlet they are awarded by a coalition of automotive journalists from the United States and Canada who represent magazines, television, radio, newspapers and web sites.” North American Car of the Year website

It goes on to state, “The awards are designed to recognize the most outstanding new vehicles of the year. These vehicles are benchmarks in their segments based on factors including innovation, comfort, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value for the dollar.”

This announcement marks the second time Hyundai has won (2009 Genesis), and the third time being nominated in the past four years (2011 Sonata).

Out of the three finalists, the panel gave the Elantra 174 points, the Passat 161 and the Focus 155.

“The Hyundai Elantra is sporty, yet sensible. Luxurious, yet affordable. Spunky, but safe. The Elantra is a series of paradoxes and every one is another argument for the latest, impressive entry in the Hyundai lineup,” wrote Jayne O’Donnell, one of the voting journalists and from USA Today.

To be eligible a vehicle must be all new or substantially changed.

The first step in the treatment of any disease is diagnosis. Unfortunately for some, diagnosis may come later than for others. “The biggest thing I want parents to know is we can do something about it to help your child,” says Dr. Rebecca Landa, autism director at Baltimore’s Kennedy Krieger Institute. Her preliminary research has discovered that minority Autism patients diagnosed in toddlerhood have more developmental delays than their white counterparts. Part, it is surmised, is due to cultural differences. For example, most children learn to point before they can speak, but in some cultures it is rude to point, so these minor developments could easily be missed by some parents.

These are only preliminary findings however and more research is needed to determine the exact reason for the gap. The charity organization, Autism Speaks is at the forefront of raising the necessary funds for more of this type of research and local car dealership, the Lester Glenn Auto Group is “stepping up to the plate” to help.

Now through August 2012, the Lester Glenn Auto Group will have a Hyundai Santa Fe parked on the Toms River Hyundai showroom floor, promoting Autism Speaks and their goal to find a cure. Every customer at Lester Glenn Hyundai of Toms River will be asked to sign the vehicle and in August 2012, the Santa Fe will be donated to Autism Speaks to be auctioned off at one of their charity events.

Adam Kraushaar, president of Lester Glenn Auto Group, feels strongly about this disease and the need to help conquer it. “I’m the father of two young kids and I have seen how autism affects so many children in our community,” says Kraushaar. “This vehicle is being donated by, not just Lester Glenn Hyundai, but also by our customers, with a portion of each sale being allocated toward the cost of the vehicle”.

For about 8 years now, I (Ryan Ruch, Social Media Representative for Lester Glenn Auto Group) have been coaching Special Olympics floor hockey. This fall/winter was no different. The Ocean Knights are a team of high school aged Special Olympics athletes based out of the Toms River, New Jersey area, and the only team from Ocean County at the Special Olympics State Hockey Tournament.

This year’s tournament was held at Richard Stockton College in Pomona, New Jersey. Our 6 wins and one loss record during the regular season moved us up to Division II, against the Mercer Generals and Bergen Wildcats. The Knights played hard and as a team, beating the Generals 6-2 and the Wildcats 9-3. (see tournament results here)

It was very rewarding seeing the smiles on the team’s faces as they received their gold medals. It is something I will always remember. I can’t fully express how proud I am of these outstanding athletes. There is no better feeling than knowing that you were part of something so special.
